Simplifying Resilient Power Design with REopt Lite: A Look at New Features Added to NREL’s Solar+Storage Tool

July 25, 2018 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET

With the latest updates to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s (NREL) solar+storage optimization tool, REopt Lite, building owners and energy managers can now easily compare the costs and benefits of solar+storage systems designed to meet resiliency goals. The new features allow users to perform a side-by-side comparison between a system sized to power critical loads in an emergency and one designed to maximize savings over time. The new version of REopt Lite also allows users to assign a value to outage-related losses and incorporate traditional diesel generators into the design process.

In this webinar, Clean Energy Group vice president and project director Seth Mullendore walked through examples using data from actual projects considering resilient solar+storage solutions. Seth was joined by Nick Laws, an engineer in energy systems modeling at NREL, who was on-hand to answer questions about REopt Lite and help explain the new features.

REopt Lite is a free tool is designed to help users quickly evaluate the economics of solar PV and battery storage for their sites. The tool is an online version of NREL’s more comprehensive REopt model, which has been used by analysts to evaluate renewable energy opportunities at more than 10,000 sites, supporting decisions leading to more than 260 megawatts of renewable energy development.
