Partnering to Reduce Energy Burden: A Michigan Community Solar and Weatherization Pilot
July 12, 2023 @ 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM ET
Low-income households in Michigan spend an average of 15 percent of their income on energy costs, which is classified as a severe energy burden. A new case study by the Clean Energy States Alliance highlights the collaborative effort between Michigan’s energy office, local community action agencies, and utilities to develop three separate pilot programs. The case study, Partnering to Reduce Energy Burden: A Michigan Community Solar and Weatherization Pilot, profiles EGLE’s efforts and highlights lessons learned. Michigan’s work can serve as a model for other state agencies, community partners, and utilities seeking to maximize the impact of existing weatherization programs.
In this Clean Energy States Alliance webinar, report author Anna Adamsson was joined by several of the pilot’s leaders:
- Lisa Thomas, Clean Energy Engineer, Michigan EGLE
- Tammy Haworth, Energy Use Advisor, Cherryland Electric Cooperative
- Miguel Rodriguez, Executive Director, Capital Area Community Services
This webinar and accompanying case study are second in a series of case studies highlighting innovative models of collaboration between state energy agencies and community-based organizations. This series is presented by CESA as part of the Solar with Justice: Connecting States and Communities project.
