OWAP Webinar: Right Whales and Offshore Wind – A Case Study for Collaboration

CESA’s Offshore Wind Accelerator Project (OWAP) and the National Wildlife Federation hosted a webinar on March 1, 2013 that examined the scientific underpinnings of North Atlantic right whale conservation; identified how this challenge might impact offshore wind development; and described the details and impact of recently agreed-upon conservation measures that present a solution.

In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, a coalition of leading environmental organizations and three offshore wind developers has agreed to a series of voluntary measures that will protect critically endangered North Atlantic right whales while helping to expedite responsible offshore wind development in the Mid-Atlantic. The companies and NGOs have drafted a set of protective measures that these developers will voluntarily implement over the next four years in areas designated by the administration as Mid-Atlantic Wind Energy Areas (WEAs), which stretch from New Jersey to Virginia.
