The Department of Defense’s Clean Energy and Energy Resilience Programs and Policies

May 2, 2023 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM ET

The US Department of Defense (DoD) is playing a leading role in the deployment of clean energy for energy resilience. DoD has well-established policies, funding programs, and procurement pathways focusing on energy resilience. There are opportunities for state and city governments to adapt DoD practices related to clean energy and energy resilience to the civilian context. At the same time, DoD is actively seeking civilian partners to help enhance energy resilience “outside the fence line” in the communities that host DoD installations. DoD is engaging in joint resilience planning with state and local partners and is also providing funding directly to communities for energy resilience projects. DoD is also attempting to partner with utilities and state regulators to upgrade critical infrastructure that serves defense critical installations.

This webinar, hosted by the Clean Energy States Alliance and Converge Strategies, provided an introduction for state and local policy makers about DoD’s clean energy and energy resilience policies and programs, and explored case studies of DoD’s active partnerships with local governments and utilities to make mutually beneficial resilience investments.
